Error Detection with Directed Symbolic Model Checking

چکیده
In practice due to entailed memory limitations the most important problem in model checking is state space explosion. Therefore, to prove the correctness of a given design binary decision diagrams (BDDs) are widely used as a concise and symbolic state space representation. Nevertheless, BDDs are not able to avoid an exponential blow-up in general. If we restrict ourselves to nd an error of a design which violates a safety property, in many cases a complete state space exploration is not necessary and the introduction of a heuristic to guide the search can help to keep both the explored part and the associated BDD representation smaller than with the classical approach. In this paper we will show that this idea can be extended with an automatically generated heuristic and that it is applicable to a large class of designs. Since the proposed algorithm can be expressed in terms of BDDs it is even possible to use an existent model checker without any

Symbolic Execution with Abstract Subsumption Checking
We address the problem of error detection for programs that take recursive data structures and arrays as input. Previously we proposed a combination of symbolic execution and model checking for the analysis of such programs: we put a bound on the size of the program inputs and/or the search depth of the model checker to limit the search state space. Here we look beyond bounded model checking an...

متن کاملLogic Bug Detection and Localization Using Symbolic Quick Error Detection
We present Symbolic Quick Error Detection (Symbolic QED), a structured approach for logic bug detection and localization which can be used both during pre-silicon design verification as well as post-silicon validation and debug. This new methodology leverages prior work on Quick Error Detection (QED) which has been demonstrated to drastically reduce the latency, in terms of the number of clock ...
متن کاملBounded Semantics of CTL and SAT-Based Verification
Bounded model checking has been proposed as a complementary approach to BDD based symbolic model checking for combating the state explosion problem, esp. for efficient error detection [3]. This has led to a lot of successful work with respect to error detection in the checking of LTL, ACTL (the universal fragment of CTL) and ACTL* properties by satisfiability testing [3, 22, 25]. The use of bou...
متن کاملI/O Efficient Directed Model Checking
Directed model checking has proved itself to be a useful technique in reducing the state space of the problem graph. But still, its potential is limited by the available memory. This problem can be circumvented by the use of secondary storage devices to store the state space. This paper discusses directed best-first search to enhance error detection capabilities of model checkers like SPIN by u...
